Johns Hopkins Krieger School of Arts & Sciences (KSAS) sets the standard for excellence in research-based undergraduate education. Our faculty have designed a flexible framework unique to Hopkins. It ensures that you gain invaluable knowledge, skills, and abilities while exercising the freedom to carve your own path — all with expert guidance.
Creating Community & Connection
Leap into learning at KSAS through the First-Year Foundation (FYF), two courses capped at 12 students each. Practice close reading, active listening, and analytical reasoning. Share ideas and contribute to ongoing conversations and debates. Connect with full-time faculty. Get to know other new students, whose interests and life experiences may be completely different from yours. Make friends. The promise of FYF is more than a firmer grounding in the habits you need to thrive at Hopkins — it’s the exhilaration of knowing you belong here.
Gaining Research Experience
Discovery is the Krieger School’s mission, and we live it 24/7. Our faculty guide students to and through investigations of all kinds. Gun violence prevention, ancient Greek tragedy, environmental protection, astrophysical dynamics, social justice, filmmaking — all topics are in bounds. STEM majors support world-class researchers in labs across JHU. Projects and Methods courses (FA6) expand every student’s research capacities. If you’re eager to learn from — and with — innovators on the cutting-edge of knowledge, KSAS is the place to be.
